STORIES OF CHANGE

Creative mentoring becomes powerful when it creates lasting change.

This page shares the measurable impact of Grooveschool’s work alongside real journeys from young people, schools and communities.

REAL IMPACT SINCE 2011

Since 2011, Grooveschool has supported over 400 young people across South London through structured, relationship-led music programmes.

Our work consistently shows strong engagement, with average attendance around 80% across programmes. The vast majority of participants report increased creative confidence and improved overall wellbeing.

These outcomes are not accidental. They are the result of consistency, clear progression and safe spaces where young people are taken seriously.

How We Measure Change

Impact at Grooveschool is measured through both structure and story.

We track attendance and progression carefully. We observe skill development over time. We listen to reflections shared in sessions. We follow up with families and partner settings. We witness the creative outputs — finished tracks, DJ sets, performances and podcasts — that represent more than technical learning.

Change is measured in confidence, communication, independence and identity.

Student Journeys

Behind every statistic is a real story.

Sheriff began as a young person who struggled to speak in group settings. Through long-term mentoring, he developed the confidence to perform publicly, assist in sessions and begin building a professional DJ career.

Kira progressed from self-taught experimentation at home to performing live, producing music in Ableton and securing her first professional bookings.

Jasmine balanced study and caring responsibilities while building her production skills, eventually progressing into a studio assistant role at Abbey Road.

Jacob moved steadily from Grooveschool sessions into university study in music production and business, performing at major events and managing a Grooveschool release.

Louis transformed school disengagement into a pathway through music, progressing into college, mentoring roles and regular performance within London’s underground scene.

Each journey looks different. What connects them is structure, consistency and belief.

What People Say

“Grooveschool made a huge difference to our son’s communication. For the first time, he wanted to speak about what he was doing. He even presented to his whole Sixth Form about DJing.”

“The transformation has been remarkable. From being afraid to leave the house alone to travelling independently and DJing confidently.”
