Let's Groove

The goal of this project is to support neurodivergent young people with a strong interest in the music industry, to develop their interest and achieve their potential.

Studies have shown that music can enhance the physical and cognitive tendencies of neurodivergent people; hence we see the growth in music therapy for neurodivergent people including very young children. Music can help people experience the full range of their emotions which they tend to find difficult to express.

Many neurodivergent young people are highly creative; original thinkers; and adept at connecting seemingly unrelated ideas; and the ever-changing; high-stimulatory world of electronic music can be an ideal work environment for their non-linear thinking styles.

The project also aim’s to bring young neurodivergent people together; provide a social space where they can feel safe and be themselves without the fear of being judged and foster understanding and acceptance among neurotypical people.

We deliver weekly sessions from our Brixton studio. Participants gain knowledge and experience in developing the building blocks of a modern DJ and Music Producer. They learn how to compile; play and record their own DJ sets as well as create their own music to play back in their sets. They also benefit from podcast facilities to create and deliver their own shows.

This project is making a significant difference to the lives of autistic and neurodivergent young people between the ages of 16-25 from low income families and living in deprived London wards and communities.
