about

Grooveschool is a London-based charity using music and digital arts to build confidence, creativity and connection for people of all ages and abilities.

Founded in Brixton, we believe that everyone deserves access to meaningful, hands-on creative learning — especially young people who often miss out on the opportunities and encouragement they need to thrive.

Our work combines DJing, music production, podcasting, mentoring and wellbeing in a way that supports emotional development as much as technical skill. We specialise in working with young people who are neurodivergent, disengaged from school, anxious, or in need of positive, structured, creative support.

At its heart, Grooveschool is about opening doors: to self-belief, to new experiences, to community, to creativity and to a sense of belonging.

Our Story

Grooveschool began in grassroots community spaces in Brixton, teaching DJing and digital music skills to young people who gravitated towards creativity but struggled to find a place where they felt seen.

From the beginning, our approach was simple:
meet people where they are, use music as a bridge, and build trust through consistency, care and authentic mentorship.

Over time, our sessions grew into a supportive environment that offered more than skills — they offered stability, confidence, friendships and progression.

Today, Grooveschool runs workshops, 1-to-1 mentoring, school-based programmes and community projects across London, while staying true to our Brixton roots and community-led ethos.

Our Approach

Mentoring First, Music Second

We build relationships before we build playlists. Young people learn best when they feel safe, respected and understood. Our mentors bring lived experience as DJs, producers and community practitioners — and genuinely care about each learner’s growth.

Inclusive & Neurodivergent-Friendly

Structure, routine and predictability help learners feel comfortable. Our sessions use clear steps, sensory-aware environments and flexible pathways to support a wide range of learning styles.

Trauma-Informed Practice

We understand how anxiety, past experiences and behavioural patterns can impact engagement. We create spaces where young people can explore, take risks and succeed at their own pace.

Hands-On, Real-World Learning

Our sessions are practical, immersive and grounded in real creative practice — from DJ mixing and beat-making to podcast interviewing and audio editing.

Progression & Opportunity

We support young people to develop not only creative skills but social skills, emotional regulation, communication, teamwork and the confidence to step into new opportunities.
