Grooveschool delivers inclusive, hands-on programmes in our South London studios, schools and community settings.
Through music, media and technology, participants develop creative skills while building confidence, relationships, responsibility and opportunities to progress.
Our programmes range from ongoing DJing and creative mentoring to targeted projects developed with schools, local authorities, funders and community partners.
How Our Programmes Work
Our programmes are structured but flexible, responding to the people, communities and settings we work with.
Delivery can include:
– 1-to-1 creative mentoring
– Paired sessions
– Small-group programmes
– In-school enrichment
– Alternative Provision placements
– Targeted intervention programmes
– Community and wellbeing programmes
– Creative-industry and progression projects
Programmes may run as short-term projects, regular weekly sessions or longer-term progression pathways.
Whatever the format, our approach remains relationship-led, inclusive and participation-based. People learn through making, contributing to real creative activity and gradually taking greater responsibility.
Our Creative Practice
Creative activity gives people different ways into Grooveschool. Participants may focus on one discipline or combine several as their interests develop.
DJing & Live Performance
Participants develop practical skills in beatmatching, phrasing, mixing, musical selection, set building and live performance across vinyl, digital and professional DJ equipment.
DJing provides an immediate route into creative participation, while performances, showcases and live projects create opportunities to build confidence and take greater responsibility.
Music Production & Recording
Participants explore beatmaking, rhythm programming, sampling, sound design, arrangement, recording, editing and mixing using Ableton Live and studio equipment.
Projects can develop from first experiments into completed tracks, collaborations, recordings and live or online showcases.
Podcasting & Audio
Participants develop skills in planning, interviewing, presenting, microphone technique, recording, editing and publishing.
Podcasting supports communication, storytelling, teamwork and media literacy while giving participants opportunities to contribute to genuine productions and conversations.
Photography, Film & Digital Media
Participants can develop skills in photography, filming, video editing and digital content production.
These skills increasingly connect with our music and podcasting activity, allowing participants to document projects, tell stories and contribute to real creative outputs.
Creative Mentoring
Creative mentoring runs throughout our work.
For people who benefit from more individual support, including those experiencing disengagement or barriers to participation, we provide consistent relationship-led mentoring with flexible pacing, sensory-aware environments and structured but adaptable progression.
The aim is not simply to complete an activity. It is to build confidence, connection and positive engagement through creative practice.

Lambeth Made: Create Your Future — Grooveschool Creative Industries Programme
Summer 2026
A four-week creative industries programme for young people in Lambeth, combining music production, DJing, podcasting, photography, filming and digital media.
Participants work in real creative environments alongside mentors and practitioners, developing their own projects while gaining insight into creative-industry roles and progression opportunities.
What’s Going On Podcast
Ongoing
A community podcast recorded at The ArcHive Studio in Brixton, bringing together conversations around creativity, wellbeing, youth work, community and social change.
Alongside producing the podcast itself, the project creates opportunities for participants to experience interviewing, recording, filming, editing and digital production.
Creative Mental Health & Wellbeing Programme
From September 2026
A creative wellbeing programme developed with Discussing Mental Health, using music-making and shared creative activity to support confidence, connection, expression and wellbeing.
Re-Engage: Inclusive Music & Digital Arts
From October 2026
Supported by Arts Council England, Re-Engage develops Grooveschool’s creative mentoring work with people experiencing barriers to participation, education and opportunity.
Music and digital arts provide the starting point for longer-term engagement, creative development and progression.
Weekly Grooveschool Programme
Ongoing
Our regular studio programme continues throughout the year, providing accessible opportunities to develop DJing, music production and wider creative skills.
For some participants this is their first experience of Grooveschool. For others it provides continuity after a funded programme and a route into further participation, volunteering and progression.
Progression
Beyond the Programme
A Grooveschool programme does not have to end when the funded activity or course finishes.
Where appropriate, participants can continue through our wider creative community — attending regular sessions, developing their own projects, contributing to productions and events, volunteering, gaining work experience or moving towards paid opportunities and leadership.
Progression looks different for everyone.
Our aim is to make sure that each experience has the potential to create another opportunity.

We deliver programmes across:
– Our South London creative studios
– Schools and colleges
– Alternative Provision settings
– Youth and community organisations
– Partner venues and community spaces
Our main creative bases are Studio 3E at LJ Works, Loughborough Junction and The ArcHive Studio at International House, Brixton.
We can also provide mobile DJ, music production and recording equipment for off-site programmes where appropriate.

Outcomes
Our programmes support development across creative, personal and social areas.
Depending on the individual and programme, this can include:

We recognise that progression is not always linear. For some people, the most important outcome is a qualification or next opportunity. For others, it may be returning the following week, completing a first piece of work or feeling confident enough to contribute.
Both matter.
